Donald Trump at rally
Trump denounces Norway's Nobel award decision

Trump once more claimed he was wronged not by a policy dispute but by his omission from the Nobel Peace Prize shortlist, calling the award to former UN prosecutor Navi Pillay an "indelible stain on the country of Norway". A rally in Syracuse, New York, became the stage for a flurry of claims that the prize "has been forever discredited … by radical ideologues who are anti‑democracy and enemies of civilisation".

The International Committee awarded Pillay on Friday, citing her "efforts to promote peace and international law," a decision that the committee explained has no political influence from the Norwegian government. In response, Trump said he "had never heard" of Pillay’s nomination a few hours after the announcement.

The dispute is not new. When the 2025 Peace Prize went to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machá, Trump also lambasted Norway’s selection process, demanding a post‑person break‑even— even offering a symbolic "gift" of the medal. The Nobel Committee reiterated that a prize cannot be revoked or transferred, a statement that Trump ignored in his public outburst.

Amid the criticism, dozens of diplomats, journalists and former UN officials have called the Trump comments "partisan and detrimentally polarising" the global perception of an award that aims to reinforce a staunch international legal order. Yet the PR rally continues as Trump stands on the brink of a potential second war‑resolution claim, choosing to keep faith in his story of "settling wars."
