The White House has released the names of the members who will form the Trump administration's new 'Board of Peace' for Gaza. With the US president as chair, the founding Executive Board will oversee the work of a committee of technocrats tasked with the temporary governance of Gaza - and its reconstruction.
Each member of the executive board is expected to be in charge of a portfolio that will be 'critical to Gaza's stabilisation', the White House added. However, it is not yet clear who will be responsible for which priorities.
No women or Palestinians have been announced at this top level, but the White House stated that additional members will be announced over the coming weeks.
The founding Executive Board comprises several notable figures:
Sir Tony Blair
Former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair, who served from 1997 to 2007, is one of the key members. He has described Trump's plans as the best chance of ending two years of war, misery and suffering. Blair is the only founding member who is not a US citizen.
Marco Rubio
As US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio has been influential in foreign policy decisions. His stance on Gaza has shifted over time, from advocating for military action against Hamas to supporting ceasefire agreements.
Steve Witkoff
The US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, a businessman with close ties to Trump, has emphasized reconstruction and demilitarisation of Gaza in initiating the second phase of peace efforts.
Jared Kushner
Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, is also involved as a key mediator in ongoing negotiations affecting both Israel-Gaza and Russia-Ukraine dynamics.
Marc Rowan
Billionaire Marc Rowan, CEO of Apollo Global Management, has been considered an influential figure slated for a potential role in government.
Ajay Banga
Ajay Banga, the World Bank president and a prominent advisor to US leaders, is included in the board due to his vast experience in management and governance.
Robert Gabriel
Robert Gabriel, a national security adviser, rounds out the board, bringing experience from Trump’s previous presidential campaign.
Nickolay Mladenov
Lastly, Nickolay Mladenov, a former UN Middle East envoy, will oversee the daily governance of Gaza through a newly formed Palestinian technocratic committee.
