US‑Israel strikes have damaged 50+ Iranian military bases, satellite images show
Satellite imagery released by BBC Verify shows that more than 50 Iranian military facilities—including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) headquarters—have been damaged by US‑Israeli attacks since the conflict began on 28 February.
Widespread damage across the country
Images reveal extensive damage to air‑force jets, warships and ballistic‑missile launch pads. Runways at Mehrabad International Airport suffered at least 17 aircraft destroyed, while Shiraz Airbase saw 13 jets hit between 2‑17 April. The Bandar Abbas naval base, the navy’s headquarters, endured fire seen in satellite photos on 4 March.
Iran repairs under the fragile ceasefire
Despite the strikes, Bahrain satellite images suggest that Tehran has used the ceasefire to start repairs at several missile bases. The Tabriz site shows cleared roads, excavated tunnels, and construction vehicles—a sign that Iran is rebuilding its strategic assets.

Strategic implications for US forces
Experts warn that although Iran’s air and naval forces suffered heavy losses, the country still retains a powerful counter‑strike capability. Small, fast “mosquito” vessels and inexpensive drones can threaten US assets in the Strait of Hormuz, while missiles and drones are used to hit US bases in eight countries.
Civilian toll and internal security targets
Human Rights Activists News Agency reports more than 1,700 civilians killed, though US forces claim the figure is overstated. Interior security forces, including the IRGC and its Basij paramilitary, have also been targeted. A strike on the Tehran command centre on 4 March leveled a building next to the base.
US response and future trajectory
The US has conducted “self‑defence” strikes, targeting surveillance and radar sites in southern Iran, followed by retaliatory attacks on US bases in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan. The conflict is expected to continue flaring amid uneven cease‑fire compliance.
The battle over strategic positions and future power balance in the region will continue to shape the conflict, with Iran’s ability to rebuild constrained by economic pressures and the US’s ongoing counter‑strike capabilities.
