Donald Trump, speaking after his recent White House press briefing, urged Ukraine to elect a new president amid controversy over a diesel deal with Russia.

The former U.S. President criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for authorizing strikes on Russian refineries, calling the attacks a global problem. Trump suggested that Zelensky should “stop” and that Ukraine needs a new leader capable of securing a better deal.

The dispute centers on a U.S. agreement to suspend sanctions on Russian diesel exports until 7 April. Zelensky warned that the pause will give Moscow more money to buy weapons and continue its offensive, citing recent devastating strikes on Zaporizhzhia.

Trump confirmed the reach of the agreement, while European officials denounced the move. EU foreign‑policy chief Kaja Kallas said the deal would strengthen Russia’s war funding and that there would be no relaxation of pressure on Moscow.

The diesel arrangement reflects Trump’s broader strategy to push lower fuel prices before the midterm elections. Republicans have faced criticism for rising gasoline and diesel costs that have fueled inflation concerns among voters.
