In brief
A 1975 Panther De Ville once owned by iconic French rock star Johnny Hallyday, known for its bespoke features, has been sold at auction for €132,000.
The Panther De Ville, a custom-made classic car given to Hallyday by his former wife Sylvie Vartan, is rich in history and significance. Made in 1975, the vehicle, known for its luxurious mink seats and distinctive gold disc on the grille, was lost in a poker game in 1977. French auction house Osenat conducted the sale, where the car was expected to bring in between €55,000 and €80,000 but exceeded expectations with its final sale price of €132,000, which includes an additional buyer's premium. The vehicle has gathered attention for its unique design and Hallyday's connection, including personal touches like his initials on custom hubcaps. The new owner, a French individual closely connected to future plans involving the car, plans to unveil details soon. Hallyday, known as the "French Elvis," had a passion for automobiles but was compelled to part with the classic vehicle, sparked by financial constraints and a poker game loss. Before his passing in 2017, Hallyday had a prolific career, with over 110 million records sold and a legacy that continues to resonate today.
