Donald Trump has said Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an "energy ceasefire" in the ongoing war between the two nations.
The U.S. president provided few details, only that the ceasefire is "effective immediately." Neither Kyiv nor Moscow have yet offered comment, and the BBC has requested further clarification from the White House.
Trump has been pressing Ukraine to stop striking Russian oil infrastructure – assets he says are vital to cutting Moscow’s war‑machine revenue – so that the country can honour a recently struck deal to release diesel to the United States and the wider global market.
In response, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he would consider a pause in attacks if Russia halted its damaging strikes against Ukraine’s energy facilities, attacks that have intensified in the run‑up to winter.
