Six medical crew members presumed dead as plane vanishes off US coast
A Gulfstream G‑100 aircraft operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, carrying four Canadian nationals, two Bermudian nationals, a patient and a relative, disappeared while en route from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport to Boston’s Logan International Airport on Saturday morning.
Flight records show the plane lost contact just after 01:00 GMT and the United States Coast Guard later ceased its search off Nantucket. Authorities confirmed a "debris field" belonging to the aircraft on Saturday evening, indicating a fatal crash.
Reports from flight data and radio transmissions suggest a sudden drop of altitude from around 7,300 m to 3,300 m before communications failed. Air traffic control exchanged urgent messages with the pilot, who ultimately declared an emergency.
Latitude Air Ambulance stated that the six people aboard were "presumed dead" and pledged support to their families. The company will cooperate with ongoing investigations to determine the cause of the accident.
The tragedy highlights the risks of medical transport flights and the importance of comprehensive safety checks.
