Shark Attack at Sydney Beach Leaves 35‑Year‑Old Woman Seriously Injured

A 35‑year‑old woman was bitten by a shark at Coogee Beach in eastern Sydney on Saturday. Emergency services were called shortly after the attack and first‑aid was provided by members of the public before police arrived. The victim sustained serious injuries to her arm and leg and was then airlifted by helicopter to the nearest hospital.

The emergency response team closed several nearby beaches in the area as a precaution. According to witnesses, a large pool of blood appeared in the water before a nearby ski paddler attempted to help the woman. The incident is the latest in a series of shark attacks along Australia's coast, following a fatal attack on a diver south‑east of Perth and a fatal bite to a father of two in May.

Australia has recorded almost 1,300 shark attacks since 1791, with more than 260 resulting in death. While most attacks are non‑fatal, they remain a public concern, especially at popular surfing and swimming spots where protective measures are frequently implemented.
