A project to restore tropical forests and a global ocean treaty initiative are among the winners of this year's Earthshot Prize.
The winners, named at an awards ceremony in Brazil, will each receive £1 million to scale up their climate-repair projects.
Prince William, who founded the award in 2020, expressed that the winners serve as an inspiration and showcase that progress is possible.
Football legend Cafu, Olympian Rebeca Andrade, and former Formula 1 driver Sebastian Vettel were presenters, with performances by Kylie Minogue and Shawn Mendes artfully highlighting the event.
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan were among the dignitaries present. The Earthshot Prize, inspired by JFK's Moonshot project, aims to tackle environmental issues directly and promote real, lasting change.
There are five crucial goals for the Earthshot Prize: Protect and Restore Nature; Clean Our Air; Revive Our Oceans; Build a Waste-Free World; and Fix Our Climate.
This year's ceremony marked a pivotal moment, halfway through the ten-year commitment of Prince William to the Earthshot Prize. Nearly 2,500 nominees from 72 countries were submitted, with 15 finalists selected to compete for these prestigious awards.
The five winning projects represent innovative solutions to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges.
