US musician Oliver Tree dies in helicopter collision in Brazil

The alt‑pop star Oliver Tree, 32, was among six people who died when the helicopter he was travelling in collided with another aircraft over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday.
The accident occurred as the helicopters were passing over the city; one of them crashed into a dealership car‑park, igniting around twenty vehicles.
Video released by Brazilian media shows a helicopter dropping from the sky with flames and thick smoke rising, while authorities are now investigating the cause of the collision.
Tree was on a world tour, having just performed in São Paulo on 6 June. He was scheduled to play in Lisbon on 1 July and had further shows in Glasgow, Manchester and London in September.
Fans and fellow artists, including KSI and Steve‑O, expressed their grief online, describing Tree as a legend and a great friend.
The death comes shortly after Tree was nominated for a Brit Award in 2024 for his song Miss You, and he had set a Guinness World Record in 2020 for the largest kick scooter.
