Polish authorities have detained a Polish national, Jacek Dobrzynski, after intelligence linked him to a plot to kill Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak‑Kamysz.

The Interior Ministry reported that police had received credible information about potential attacks on Tusk and Kosiniak‑Kamysz. Security services convened a special meeting on Sunday and described the threat as "deadly serious".

Tusk thanked police for their "swift and decisive action" after Dobrzynski’s arrest in Lower Silesia. A spokesperson for the Special Services Coordinator said there was strong likelihood the threats could have been carried out.

The plot was uncovered when an email detailing the potential attack was forwarded to police by the State Protection Service. Interior Ministry spokeswoman Karolina Galecka confirmed the information came via the service responsible for ministers’ security.

Donald Tusk has served as Poland’s prime minister since 2023, having previously held the post from 2007 to 2014. He also served as president of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
