Early Morning Stabbing at Edmonton Sikh Temple Leaves Two Injured

A man was taken into custody after a sudden stabbing attack inside Edmonton’s Nanaksar Gurdwara on Friday morning at roughly 5 a.m. Two individuals were injured in the incident, but police have not announced a motive.
The assault came shortly after police confirmed that threatening calls were being made to two Sikh gurdwaras in Calgary. That case is now under investigation.
The World Sikh Organization described the incident as deeply troubling amid a rise in anti‑Sikh hate in the country. They reported that an intruder entered the temple and attacked people inside, and that a copy of the Sikh scripture was also allegedly desecrated.
Police have closed the temple and remain on site as the investigation proceeds. The World Sikh Organization said it was working closely with authorities to uncover the facts.
Calgary’s mayor Jeromy Farkas condemned the threats made in his city, calling them utterly disgusting. He emphasized that gurdwaras are places of hospitality and that everyone is welcome.
