OpenAI Partners with Amazon in Landmark $38 Billion Cloud Computing Deal
OpenAI has signed a $38 billion (£29 billion) contract with Amazon to access its cloud computing infrastructure as it continues its expansion into major partnerships.
In 2025, OpenAI has reportedly signed deals worth over $1 trillion with industry giants such as Oracle, Broadcom, AMD, and chip-making leader Nvidia.
This seven-year agreement will see OpenAI utilizing Nvidia graphics processors to enhance its artificial intelligence models through robust computational resources.
The announcement follows OpenAI's significant restructuring last week, transitioning from a non-profit organization and modifying its relationship with Microsoft to afford OpenAI more operational and financial freedom.
Sam Altman, OpenAI's co-founder and CEO, remarked, Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute. Our partnership with AWS [Amazon Web Services] strengthens the broad compute ecosystem that will power this next era and bring advanced AI to everyone.
The deal underscores the surging demand for computational power driven by growing interest in AI technologies.
Following the deal's announcement on Monday, Amazon's stock soared to an all-time high, adding approximately $140 billion (£106 billion) to its market valuation.
As OpenAI continues its spree of deals, some analysts speculate about a potential AI investment bubble forming in the market. Altman acknowledged the unprecedented nature of investment loans while emphasizing the rapid revenue growth of companies in the AI sector.
