HAMMONTON, N.J. (AP) — A midair collision between two helicopters in New Jersey resulted in one fatality and one pilot sustaining critical injuries. According to Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel, emergency responders were alerted to the accident around 11:25 a.m. on a recent Sunday. Fire crews acted swiftly to put out flames engulfing one of the aircraft involved. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) later confirmed that the crash involved an Enstrom F-28A and an Enstrom 280C helicopter, with only the pilots aboard each craft. Eyewitness footage showed one helicopter spinning rapidly downwards prior to impact. Hammonton, with a population of approximately 15,000, is located in Atlantic County, around 35 miles southeast of Philadelphia, known for its agricultural history and proximity to the expansive Pine Barrens wilderness. The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have begun their investigation into the tragic incident.
