A man who jumped over a barricade and grabbed actress Ariana Grande at a Wicked: For Good premiere in Singapore has been charged with being a public nuisance.
The incident, captured in a now-viral video, shows the Australian man, Johnson Wen, pushing past photographers to charge at Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet surrounded by fans. Co-star Cynthia Erivo was seen intervening to help the startled actress.
Wen had posted on Instagram that he was free after being arrested but was subsequently charged by a Singapore court. He appears unrepresented and reportedly plans to plead guilty. The public outrage in Singapore has been palpable, with calls for Wen to be arrested and deported.
This is not Wen's first disruptive incident; he describes himself as a Troll Most Hated and has previously interrupted other celebrity events, including performances by Katy Perry and The Chainsmokers.
If convicted, he faces a fine of up to S$2000 ($1540; £1170). The incident has also reignited discussions about security measures at public events, especially those involving celebrities who have previously been traumatized by similar situations, like Grande.
Grande has not publicly commented on the event, and the premiere went on as planned, with hundreds of fans present to celebrate the film's upcoming release.
