French President Emmanuel Macron has condemned U.S. President Donald Trump's recent inconsistent remarks on the ongoing Iran conflict, advocating for a serious approach to such crucial matters.
Upon arriving in South Korea for a state visit, Macron emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, This is not a show. We are talking about war and peace and the lives of men and women. His remarks come in light of Trump's shifting statements regarding the conflict, which have included announcements of ceasefires and declarations of victory, followed by renewed military action.
Macron pointed out that a responsible leader does not say contradictory things from one day to the next, insisting, And maybe you shouldn't be speaking every day. You should just let things quieten down. He noted that the international community, especially allies like France, has shown restraint and solidarity amidst the turmoil.
As tensions in Iran rise, Macron stated, They then lament that they are alone in an operation they decided on alone. It's not our operation. He underlined the necessity for international consensus and cooperation, as well as the need for oversight regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
In response to Trump's mockery of Macron in private remarks concerning his marriage, the French leader dismissed such comments as 'neither elegant nor up to standard,' and expressed the unacceptable nature of derogatory descriptions involving his wife. The comments have drawn a wave of backlash within France, prompting widespread condemnation from various political figures.
Macron suggested that more careful diplomacy and respect between allies are essential, urging leaders to focus on serious discussions rather than creating discord with flippant remarks.
