In brief
In response to escalating threats from Iran, the U.S. is deploying the THAAD antimissile system to Israel, enhancing their missile defense capabilities.
The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system is being sent by the United States to Israel to enhance its missile defense in light of potential attacks orchestrated by Iran and its affiliates. This move signifies increased military cooperation between the U.S. and Israel while putting American troops in the proximity of the unfolding Middle East conflict. The THAAD system is a sophisticated interceptor capable of neutralizing ballistic and cruise missiles both within and above the Earth's atmosphere. Accompanying the system, approximately 100 American troops will be stationed in Israel to manage its operation, signifying a robust political message of support to Israel and a deterrent stance towards its adversaries. This deployment is part of the global strategy involving nine active THAAD batteries, predominantly operated by the U.S. Army.
