In brief

German aerospace firm Safran Landing Systems announced a €136‑million investment to expand its manufacturing and maintenance facilities in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The project adds 7,000 square metres of production space, doubles carbon brake disc capacity by 2028, and will serve about 100 Asia‑Pacific airlines. The new facilities will be located near Kuala Malamun International Airport and include a dedicated carbon brake MRO center.

According to Xinhua, KUALA LUMPUR – German aerospace firm Safran Landing Systems announced on 29 October 2026 that it will invest 136 million euros (about 152 million U.S. dollars) to enlarge its manufacturing and maintenance facilities in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.

The €136‑million investment will create 7,000 square metres of advanced manufacturing space, providing room to expand production lines that build carbon brake discs.

Safran said the new investment is expected to double its carbon brake disc production capacity by 2028, enabling the company to supply more airlines across the Asia‑Pacific region.

The expansion includes a heat‑sink refurbishment plant that cleans and refits components used in landing gear to meet stringent safety requirements.

Alongside the manufacturing upgrade, Safran is opening a dedicated carbon brake Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center in Negeri Sembilan close to Kuala Malamun International Airport.

The new MRO center will accept both new carbon brake discs and refurbished discs from the adjacent manufacturing facility, creating a streamlined workflow between production and maintenance services.

The combined facilities are expected to serve roughly 100 airline operators, covering fleets that use Airbus A320, A321 and A350 models, Boeing 737, 777 and 787 aircraft, and ATR turboprops.

The current manufacturing site employs 160 people, a workforce that will likely see expansion as the new space is commissioned and production ramps up.

Guarding the growth is a clear focus on meeting demand for high‑performance aircraft brakes, an essential component for modern jetliners that rely on lightweight, heat‑resistant materials.

Safran emphasized that the investment in Negeri Sembilan underscores its commitment to the Asia‑Pacific market, a region where aviation demand is rising consistently.

With the new facilities in place, Safran expects to hit double capacity by the end of 2028, a milestone that fits its broader strategy to support airlines across the region.

The company stated that the extended production and maintenance capabilities will directly support maintenance operations for major Airbus, Boeing and ATR aircraft models operating in the Asia‑Pacific sector.

Locating the MRO center near the main passenger terminal of Kuala Malamun International Airport allows rapid delivery of spare parts, reducing aircraft downtime for airlines.

The investment also aligns with Malaysia’s growing aerospace industry, which has attracted other foreign investors in the past decade.

Safran’s expansion signals confidence in the regional market, with its latest announcement reflecting the company’s long‑term partnership with local suppliers.

The 136‑million euro commitment represents a significant financial injection into the Malaysian aerospace supply chain, reinforcing the country’s strategic importance as a hub for maintenance services.

The expansion was also reported by Big News Network, which quoted the same investment figure in its breaking business news coverage.
