Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, after stating earlier that Ukrainian drones could help improve security in the Gulf region.

Important meetings are scheduled. We appreciate the support of those who are ready to work with us to ensure security, and we support them too, he expressed in a social media message.

Earlier on Thursday, Zelensky had offered Ukraine's drone technology as a means of enhancing global security, particularly in the Gulf.

This matters because energy security - and the cost of living, particularly in Europe - depends on their oil, gas and other resources, and stable global markets, he remarked in a video message to the Joint Expeditionary Force, a security alliance that held a summit meeting in Helsinki.

He highlighted the importance of producing not just new drones, but utilizing real-world experience in integrating drone technology with existing defense systems. We have this experience, he stated.

Zelensky mentioned that in return, he would be looking for help in defending Ukraine from the ongoing Russian invasion. He noted, We would like Middle Eastern states to also give us an opportunity to strengthen ourselves. They have certain air defense missiles of which we don't have enough. That's what we'd like to reach a deal on, he said in an interview with Le Monde.

Various Ukrainian drone companies have reportedly been approached by Gulf states for collaboration, although approval from the Ukrainian government is still pending. Kvertus, a company specializing in anti-drone systems, stated it had been contacted by Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Yaroslav Filimonov, Kvertus's CEO, affirmed a need for a coordinated approach with the government, emphasizing that these dealings are not purely business but entwined with political considerations. Similarly, TAF Industries' CEO Volodymyr Zinovsky expressed willingness to wait for governmental approval, underlining the significance of Ukraine's security.

Discussions have also arisen around potential redirection of U.S. arms meant for Ukraine to the Gulf, creating urgency regarding drone agreements. Sources indicate the Pentagon might consider this shift due to the challenges posed by the ongoing war with Iran.

In summary, Zelensky's visit underscores Ukraine's strategic effort to enhance its defense capabilities through international partnerships while addressing regional security concerns in the Gulf.
