In brief

Ukraine’s defence ministry says drones lose signal when flying faster than 100mph, affecting battlefield coordination. Trump denied instructing Musk to limit Starlink, saying he would address the issue. Musk argues delays are not deliberate, pointing to Pentagon control of Starshield. Ukraine remains vigilant as the satellite network is critical for real‑time drone operation. The dispute unfolds amid broader US‑Ukraine tensions over sanctions and military aid.

Ukraine has reported ongoing issues with the Starlink satellite network, despite President Donald Trump’s claims that Elon Musk had reversed US restrictions.

Sources from Ukraine’s defence ministry say drones flying beyond 100mph are losing signal in mid‑air, hampering strike coordination and defensive movement.

Trump denied ever instructing Musk to limit the service, blaming “unknown” forces for the slowdown, and said he would “get it straightened out” if restrictions remain.

Elon Musk in turn said the cuts were not deliberate, citing Pentagon control of the military‑grade Starshield system, and suggested US forces might be behind the issue.

Ukraine’s signals depend on a constellation of more than 10,000 satellites that provide real‑time positioning for drones and command centres; any pause can cost seconds on the battlefield.

Earlier this week the president lifted some sanctions on Russia and agreed to import diesel, a move that has angered Ukrainian officials who see the delay as a direct blow to war efforts.
