President Volodymyr Zelenski announced overnight that Ukraine’s military has carried out a missile attack deep inside Russia, hitting a major military plant in Cheboksary in the Chuvash Republic.
The strike involved FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles that struck the drone and missile production plant, reportedly supplying the occupier’s army with components. The attack took place more than 900 kilometres (560 miles) from the front line, illustrating the reach of Ukraine’s long‑range weapons.
Local officials reported three injuries in the city and confirmed a fire at the site, but did not specify the structural damage. The head of the Chuvash Republic, Oleg Nikolaev, confirmed the strike and the casualties but was unclear on the level of destruction.
Zelenski’s statement is part of a broader campaign, with Ukraine also claiming hits on the occupied Mariupol port on the Sea of Azov, a Russian oil refinery in Samara, and a shadow‑fleet oil tanker in the Black Sea.
In the same period, Russia’s air defence units reported intercepting or shooting down 326 Ukrainian drones over multiple regions overnight, while the Ukrainian Air Force claimed to have downed 181 out of 207 Russian‑fired drones and recorded 21 direct hits across fourteen locations.
At least two people were killed and 26 injured, including two children, in four Ukrainian regions in the past 24 hours, according to local officials.
The FP-5 Flamingo missile carries a 1,150‑kg warhead and a reported range of up to 3,000 kilometres, making it capable of targeting major Russian cities, including Moscow.
With the continued deployment of such long‑range weapons and a steady stream of drone and missile strikes, Kyiv’s strategy seeks to increase the costs of the Russian invasion and push for a settlement, while Moscow has so far refused all negotiation proposals.
