RIO RICO, Ariz. (AP) — A person was detained for questioning Tuesday in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, hours after the FBI released surveillance videos of a masked person wearing a handgun holster outside Guthrie’s front door the night she vanished from her Arizona home. Deputies detained the person during a traffic stop south of Tucson, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. It did not provide details about the individual or the location. A local delivery man claimed he was mistakenly detained on suspicion of kidnapping Guthrie but was innocent and released after several hours.

The FBI and local authorities are conducting a court-authorized search at a location near Rio Rico as part of the investigation. Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared on February 1, prompting nationwide interest in the case, especially as it involves her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, who is a prominent host on NBC's 'Today' show.

Since her disappearance, Savannah and her siblings have made public appeals, expressing their willingness to pay a ransom and pleading for their mother's return. Their videos have garnered significant attention and community support, as Nancy Guthrie is described as mentally sound but with limited mobility due to health issues and dependency on medication.

The newly released surveillance footage shows a suspect attempting to avoid a doorbell camera while approaching Nancy's front door, prompting hopes that the images will lead to new tips in the investigation. Despite no ransom notes having been confirmed, investigators believe Nancy was taken against her will, and they are prioritizing her safe return.

As searches continue, Savannah Guthrie's emotional appeals resonate with viewers, emphasizing the urgency of their situation. The local community remains engaged, with law enforcement and volunteers working tirelessly to locate Nancy Guthrie and bring her home safely.
