Beijing hosted the second World Humanoid Robot Games, where 28 events – from boxing to high‑jump – showcased the latest in humanoid technology. Participants included a robot that ran 100 metres faster than the current world sprint record, a droid performing Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic ‘Siuuu’ on the football pitch, and teams in synchronized marching. The second edition of the World Humanoid Robot Games kicked off in China on Saturday, drawing a huge crowd at Beijing’s International Convention Center.

Over five days, the competition will feature 28 events, ranging from boxing and high‑jump to table tennis and synchronized marching, showcasing the range of human‑like movement that robot designers have achieved.

A highlight so far has been a lightweight humanoid that sprinted a 100‑metre dash faster than the current Usain Bolt world record, thrilling spectators and earning the caption “robot race king.”

During the opening ceremony, a droid performed Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic “Siuuu” celebration on the football pitch, while other robots executed a flawless marching routine that mirrored the human choreography.

The Games aim to push the limits of machine dexterity and provide a platform for researchers to compare competing designs; the world’s leading robotics labs have sent teams to compete in both the sporting and technical challenges.
