China has issued the largest automotive recall yet, covering nearly 3 million Teslas built in the country.
The trouble stems from retractable door handles that blend into the door panel, making them hard to find and open during emergencies, a flaw that has already led to fatal accidents.
XPeng, Xiaomi and Geely models are also affected, as regulatory bodies impose a new ban on such designs effective from 1 January 2027.
Tesla says it will add warning labels and push a software update to help owners in emergencies, while it remains unclear if a similar recall will extend overseas.
