A gunman was killed and two were injured in a shootout near the Israeli consulate in Istanbul. Two policemen were slightly injured in the gun fight, according to Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci. The attackers reportedly traveled from the city of Izmit by rental car, with two individuals identified as brothers.

In a statement, the interior ministry named the deceased gunman as Yunus E.S., allegedly connected to a terrorist organization believed to be Islamic State, though this has not been officially confirmed by any group. Initially, officials stated two attackers had been killed, but later clarified that only one was deceased.

The injured assailants, identified as Onur Ç and Enes Ç, are also brothers. Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the police officers are not life-threatening; one was shot in the leg and the other in the ear.

Ciftci mentioned that intensive digital communication has been detected among the three neutralised terrorists, and investigations into the attack are ongoing. The attack involved both rifles and pistols according to Governor Gul, who confirmed no Israeli personnel were present in the consulate, which has been vacant for two-and-a-half years due to strained diplomatic relations between Turkey and Israel over the Gaza conflict. Eyewitnesses reported the sound of gunfire for up to 20 minutes, amidst a significant police presence to secure the area.
