Two Chinese suspected spies have been arrested in Camblanes-et-Meynac, a small village near Bordeaux, after locals grew suspicious of their activities. The men, aged 27 and 29, had installed a large parabolic antenna in their garden shortly after renting the property through Airbnb. Residents noticed internet outages coinciding with the installation, prompting them to alert authorities.

French intelligence experts view the southwest region as a target for espionage due to its proximity to critical defense and aerospace installations. Following a raid by the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI), officers seized substantial computer equipment from the residence.

The pair had entered France on work visas, claiming to be engineers in wireless communications. They now face charges for allegedly delivering information to foreign powers that could harm French national interests. Additional investigations have revealed two other Chinese nationals living in France have been charged with aiding the suspects.

Authorities believe the suspects aimed to intercept satellite communications from networks, including Elon Musk's Starlink, and other military entities.

Camblanes-et-Meynac, with its population of around 3,000, is not new to espionage incidents, having previously experienced similar cases. The mayor expressed bewilderment at the situation, commenting that the village usually attracts artists rather than spies, underlining the unexpected nature of such activities in their otherwise peaceful community.
