US Launches Additional Strikes on Iran; State Media Reports Explosions
American forces resumed strikes against Iran on Tuesday, according to the US Central Command.
The strike campaign began at 12:00 ET (16:00 GMT) and was aimed at Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets following claims of attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US service members in the region.
Iranian state media reported that four projectiles struck the counties of Chabahar and Konarak, and further explosions were heard on Qeshm Island, Konarak and Bandar Abbas.
The IRGC warned that the US would regret the strikes and hinted at a severe punitive response if Iran retaliated. Former President Trump later described the strikes as “large and powerful,” stressing that Iran had failed to add sea mines to the Strait.
This follows the first known US strikes on Iran since late July earlier this week, when forces attacked two rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait.
