Syria Calls Israeli Strike a Breach of International Law
Beit Jinn, near Damascus, was hit by an Israeli airstrike, injuring civilians and sparking a strong condemnation from Syrian officials.
The attack is the second known Israeli strike on Syrian territory in the last week, with the Syrian Ministry of Defence labeling it a violation of the country's sovereignty and of international law.
The Israeli Defence Forces said they targeted a “terrorist” who was allegedly preparing attacks that posed an immediate threat to Israeli soldiers, as detailed in a recent X post.
Earlier this week, Israel struck the Abu al‑Duhur airbase close to the Turkish border, a move that the United States warned could destabilise regional security.
US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack cautioned that the strike might be an attempt to draw Turkey into conflict ahead of Israeli elections, prompting Israel’s defence minister to refute the claim.
Following the raids, the Netanyahu office highlighted the precarious status quo, noting that Syria had almost broken the agreement by allowing Turkish troops at a nearby airbase.
The conflict further clouds an already fragile situation, as Syria rebuilds its war‑related infrastructure after the fall of the Assad regime and navigates complex alliances with the West, Turkey and Israel.
