A 63‑year‑old British tourist tragically lost his life in a paragliding accident near the town of Tremp in Catalonia, north‑eastern Spain.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 13:30 local time (14:30 BST) on Wednesday in the Palau de Noguera area. Rescuers found the tourist severely injured and provided first aid, but he later died.
Locals and media report he may have become tangled in power lines before hitting the ground, though officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident.
The Catalan government coordinated three fire brigades, two medical teams, and the Mossos d'Esquadra police force, working with five citizen security and investigation units. Authorities are expected to inform the deceased’s family through British consular channels.
Meanwhile, the UK Foreign Office expressed its support for the family while awaiting further details from the local authorities.
