In brief

A passenger bus traveling from Gilgit to Rawalpindi collided with a dumper truck near the Havelian interchange in Abbottabad district, killing eight people and injuring 30 others. Rescue 1122 dispatched seven ambulances and a rescue vehicle, and medics treated the injured at Ayub Medical Complex. Authorities suspect a tire burst caused the driver to lose control.

At least eight people were killed and 30 injured when a passenger bus collided with a dumper truck near the Havelian interchange in Abbottabad district, northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan, on Friday.

The bus, which was heading from the northern city of Gilgit to the eastern garrison city of Rawalpindi, struck the truck and overturned. The impact caused the vehicle to break apart, scattering passengers and vehicle wreckage along the road.

Rescue 1122 officials reported that they were on the scene within minutes of the crash. The emergency unit dispatched seven ambulances and a rescue vehicle to the site, where they began evacuating passengers and providing first‑aid assistance.

All 30 injured passengers, including five children and six women, were taken to Ayub Medical Complex for treatment. Medics noted that four of the injured were in critical condition and feared the death toll could rise.

Local police initially suggested that the crash was caused by a tire burst, which caused the bus driver to lose control of the vehicle. The driver was not listed among the fatalities.

The bodies of the eight deceased, who reportedly were residents of Gilgit, were transported to different hospitals in the area for post‑mortem examination and burial.

The incident has drawn attention to road safety on the narrow highways that connect the northern provinces with the capital region. Officials have urged drivers to remain vigilant for tire problems and to maintain safe speeds in congested tunnel and interchange zones.
