In brief
On November 26, 2024, authorities reported that a tourist vessel, the Sea Story, sank near Marsa Alam after being struck by a large wave, leaving 16 people missing. Rescue efforts by local and military teams managed to save 28 individuals, who experienced only minor injuries, while the boat had set sail earlier that day for a six-day diving adventure scheduled to end in Hurghada. The vessel was reportedly carrying 44 passengers, a mix of Egyptians and international tourists. With poor weather conditions having been forecasted, the incident raises questions about safety protocols observed before departure. Among those still missing, four are Egyptians, and twelve are foreign tourists. An ongoing investigation aims to uncover the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
