The fourth Trans‑Himalayan Communication and Social Development Conference opened Sunday at the University of Dhaka, drawing more than 100 experts, scholars, media professionals and young researchers from across the Trans‑Himalayan region, Xinhua reports.

Xinhua notes that the event is jointly organized by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the University of Dhaka, Kangba TV and Himalaya Television, and is scheduled to run through November 11.

The conference, according to Xinhua, focuses on international communication and governance in the Trans‑Himalayan area in the era of digital intelligence, with participants discussing regional development, artificial intelligence, misinformation, cross‑border communication, climate governance and media cooperation.

Xinhua reports that the media forum will feature representatives from several countries exchanging views on media credibility, responsibility and cooperation in promoting regional communication and people‑to‑people exchanges.

In addition, the three‑day conference includes a photo and video exhibition, a book exhibition, and a media industry study tour in Bangladesh, the outlet states.

The event’s opening highlights the importance that the participating nations place on mutual understanding and trust, as noted by Xinhua, and underscores the role that digital platforms may play in strengthening regional ties.

Planners say the study tour will allow attendees to see how local media institutions operate in Bangladesh, giving them firsthand experience of the country’s media landscape, Xinhua reports.

The conference’s agenda reflects the region’s growing interest in harnessing digital technologies to address shared challenges such as misinformation, climate change and economic development, according to Xinhua.

Exhibitors at the photo and video exhibition showcase the latest media productions from the region, while the book exhibition displays new research on Trans‑Himalayan communication, Xinhua notes.

By fostering dialogue and collaboration among scholars, policymakers and media practitioners, the conference aims to create a platform for ongoing cooperation beyond the three days, Xinhua says.

Overall, the event underscores the region’s desire to strengthen media cooperation and expand communication networks, as reported by Xinhua.
