Afghan counter‑narcotics police seized more than 180 kg of illicit drugs in Taluqan, the capital of Takhar province, and arrested four suspected traffickers on Saturday, according to a provincial police spokesman.

The confiscated contraband included 143 kg of opium and 40 kg of hashish, which had been concealed in compartments of a car, the spokesman said.

Naqibullah Masroor, the spokesman for provincial police, reported that the four suspects had been transporting the drugs to an unknown destination when police intercepted their vehicle in the capital and arrested all of them.

In a parallel operation, Afghan police in the western province of Herat seized 32 kg of methamphetamine and arrested two individuals on Friday.

The Herat seizure was carried out by counter‑narcotics units that discovered the methamphetamine in a separate vehicle, officials said.

Both operations were part of a broader effort by Afghan authorities to curb drug trafficking and reduce the flow of narcotics into the country’s markets.

The confiscations underscore the continuing activity of drug traffickers in the region, with authorities focusing on high‑value opium, hashish, and methamphetamine shipments.

Police officials said they are working to investigate the source of the seized drugs and to trace the routes used by the traffickers, though no further details were released at this time.
