In brief

Two British tourists encountered life-threatening challenges during their trekking adventure in the foothills of the Dhauladhar mountain range near Dharamshala, as one sustained critical injuries that led to his death despite rescue efforts.

A British tourist has died in the Himalayas while trekking with a friend, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The pair was descending a popular trekking route when one of them fell and needed urgent assistance. A rescue team struggled against the difficult terrain for hours before reaching the critically injured man, who succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital. The distress call was made on a Sunday evening, leading the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Response Force to dispatch a team of 10 to search for the pair. They managed to locate the tourists after trekking for four hours but faced overwhelming obstacles in transporting the victim down the treacherous mountain path. According to reports, the rescuers covered only 100 meters in two hours due to challenging conditions, including a steep landscape and a fast-flowing rivulet that they had to cross repeatedly.Though one of the men was unharmed, the severely injured tourist was conveyed to the hospital nearly 24 hours later, where he was pronounced dead. Officials from the UK’s Foreign Office are currently assisting the deceased's family and have reached out to local authorities regarding the incident. The trekking duo was reportedly unaware of a temporary ban on high-altitude trekking imposed by local authorities in Kangra district. They had already reached the snowline, a perilous area for hikers when incidents like this can occur. The victim's identity has not yet been revealed as investigations continue.
