In brief

On Sunday, the Ministry of Energy announced that a Saudi Aramco administrative office in Riyadh had been targeted, producing only minor structural damage. Falling shrapnel broke some windows and left a small crater, but no one was hurt. The incident followed the Saudi-led coalition reporting the interception of several missiles aimed at the city.

On Sunday, November 8, a Saudi Aramco administrative building in Riyadh was targeted in an attempted attack that caused limited damage but no casualties, the Ministry of Energy said. The ministry posted a statement on the social media platform X, confirming that falling shrapnel had struck the structure and that no injuries were reported.

The building, which houses a cluster of executive offices and administrative staff, is located in the heart of Riyadh’s business district. According to the ministry’s brief, the impact did not cripple operations, and employees were able to resume their work after a short evacuation and safety inspection.

The incident follows a series of missile and artillery tests that the Saudi‑led coalition has been conducting in the region. Earlier on Sunday, coalition officials announced that they had intercepted two cruise missiles and two ballistic missiles launched toward Riyadh and the southern provinces. The missiles were reportedly fired by the Houthi group operating in Yemen.

Security forces are said to have acted swiftly, sealing off the area and conducting an immediate assessment of the damage. The ministry highlighted that no threats to life or property beyond the administrative building had been detected, and that emergency services had been notified but did not require deployment.

Aramco’s leadership has not yet issued a statement, but the company’s website contained a brief note of thanks for the swift response of local authorities and the dedication of the building's staff. The incident does not appear to have disrupted fuel exports or production, officials added, citing continued uninterrupted operations at Aramco’s main facilities.

The event adds to an escalating pattern of attacks directed at Saudi infrastructure, underscoring the ongoing tensions between the coalition and militant groups in the region. These attacks have prompted increased military presence and air defense drills in Riyadh and other key cities.

Local residents reported that the noise and smoke were brief and that the corridor outside the building was cleared within an hour. While the city’s emergency services were prepared for a larger response, the incident’s limited scale spared the wider community from harm and allowed normal activities to resume almost immediately.
