In brief

On November 2, 2026, the Arab League denounced UAV attacks by the Rapid Support Forces targeting energy facilities across multiple Sudanese states. It described the assaults as war crimes, warned of accountability, and reaffirmed Sudan’s sovereignty and unity. The League also recalled its 2025 resolution condemning attacks on civilian infrastructure.

In Cairo, the Arab League issued a statement on November 2, 2026, condemning repeated unmanned aerial vehicle attacks by the Rapid Support Forces on Sudan’s energy infrastructure. The strikes targeted vital facilities in the states of Khartoum, Al‑Jazirah, Sennar, Gedaref, River Nile, and Red Sea, causing extensive damage and widespread power outages that have worsened the conditions for the civilian population.

The General Secretariat of the Arab League warned that the deliberate targeting of power stations and civilian facilities constitutes a war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law. The attacks, it said, deprivations civilians of essential services and are therefore subject to accountability and prosecution.

In its statement, the Arab League reaffirmed its categorical rejection of all attacks against civilians and civilian or public service facilities. It reiterated its steadfast position in support of the Republic of Sudan, emphasizing the preservation of its unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions.

The General Secretariat also recalled Arab League Council Resolution No. 9246, issued on May 11, 2025, which condemned in the strongest terms attacks targeting infrastructure and civilian facilities in Sudan and the resulting loss of life and damage to public and private property.

The condemnation follows a series of UAV strikes attributed to the Rapid Support Forces, whose forces have been involved in the ongoing civil conflict in Sudan. The attacks have reached across six states, leading to power plants being forced out of service and causing power outages across large areas.

According to the Arab League, the repeated attacks are not only a breach of international law but also a direct attack on the livelihood of civilians, depriving them of electricity and water and other essential services.

The Arab League’s statement serves as a formal response to the escalating violence in Sudan and calls for the protection of civilian infrastructure, urging all parties to respect humanitarian principles and ensuring the restoration of essential services for the Sudanese people.
