In brief

The Al‑Baha region is spending more than SAR2.58 billion on road development projects from 2017 through 2026, with additional funds earmarked for maintenance and safety improvements. The investment targets better traffic flow, faster access to key destinations, and enhanced tourist facilities across the region’s mountainous terrain, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s broader logistics and economic growth objectives.

On November 4, 2026, the Saudi Press Agency reported that Al‑Baha, a region in southwestern Saudi Arabia, is investing more than SAR2.58 billion in road infrastructure projects to improve traffic flow and give residents and visitors easier access to the region’s key destinations, including tourist sites.

The cumulative value of road construction projects in Al‑Baha from 2017 to 2026, according to the agency, has surpassed SAR2.58 billion. Those projects are either inaugurated or still under implementation and are concentrated on reducing travel times and improving connectivity across the region’s mountainous terrain.

In addition to construction, the announcement highlighted new funding allocations aimed at maintaining and upgrading existing roads. SAR276 million has been dedicated to road maintenance contracts that will run from 2026 to 2030, while SAR120 million is earmarked for preventive maintenance between 2025 and 2027. Another SAR118.5 million has been set aside for projects approved between 2022 and 2026.

Road safety improvements also feature prominently in the investment plan. The agency notes that around SAR100 million will be spent on safety upgrades, which are expected to enhance infrastructure reliability and support the region’s economic growth, tourism, and sustainable development.

These initiatives align with Saudi Arabia’s broader goal of transforming the kingdom into a global logistics hub. By improving critical road networks, Al‑Baha seeks to facilitate the movement of goods and people, thereby stimulating regional economic activity and boosting the appeal of its scenic tourist attractions.

Officials emphasized that the projects will not only shorten commute times for local residents but also increase the accessibility of essential services. The focus on safety upgrades is intended to reduce accident rates along the often treacherous mountainous roads that have historically posed challenges for both travelers and transport operators.

With the new funding, Al‑Baha officials anticipate a significant rise in traffic efficiency. The improved road conditions are expected to attract more tourists, support local businesses, and integrate the region more tightly into Saudi Arabia’s national transportation network.

Overall, the Al‑Baha region’s investment in roads—spanning construction, maintenance, and safety—reflects a comprehensive strategy to boost connectivity, stimulate growth, and realize the kingdom’s vision of establishing a world‑class logistics corridor.
