The incident occurred at approximately 7:15 PM local time, when a Chevy pickup truck collided with a van transporting 14 tourists on a busy highway leading to Yellowstone National Park, which is entering its peak visitation period. Both vehicles caught fire during the collision. Tragically, the driver of the truck along with six passengers from the tour van lost their lives. While the investigation into the accident's cause is ongoing, eyewitness Roger Merrill shared his harrowing experience, depicting a chaotic scene with flames and smoke engulfing the vehicles and bystanders attempting to assist the injured.

Local authorities closed the highway for seven hours as emergency services worked diligently to treat victims and clear debris. The identities of the deceased will be released by the coroner’s office once family members have been notified. Yellowstone National Park, the first national park in the United States, spans nearly 3,500 square miles across Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana, attracting around four million visitors annually, especially during the summer months from May to September.
