Donald Trump says he has cancelled strikes against Iran subject to "rapidly" striking a deal with the country.

In a post on Truth Social, the US president wrote: "I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL." He said the decision had been taken alongside Israel amid reports of new, intense strikes over the weekend.

Tehran accused Washington of escalating tensions, warning that any regional state cooperating with the US would be "engulfed by the flames of war." The president added that an agreement would include the "Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran's nuclear threat."

The US government urged Americans in the Middle East to remain cautious and prepared for flight cancellations, airspace closures and potential travel disruptions if escalation occurs.
