Ahed Tareq al-Bayouk, a three-year-old girl was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza on Sunday, according to local sources inside the Palestinian territory. Ahed was reportedly playing near her family’s tent in Mawasi, Rafah, when she was shot. The Israel Defense Forces stated that they were not aware of a strike but expressed commitment to conduct a review as more information becomes available.

Since a ceasefire commenced in October, Amnesty International has reported at least 370 deaths in Gaza, including 140 children. Ahed al-Bayouk's death occurred on the Palestinian side of the Yellow Line, beyond which Israeli troops were to have withdrawn as per a US plan aimed at de-escalating tensions. The plan also involves the return of hostages taken during a previous attack on Israel.

The aftermath of the violence has led to significant casualties, with Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry claiming over 70,000 Palestinian deaths since hostilities began. Furthermore, the World Health Organization has noted that at least 16,500 wounded or critically ill Palestinians require urgent evacuation for medical treatment.

International news reporting from Gaza remains restricted, heightening calls for transparency and humanitarian access amid the ongoing conflict. In the context of these developments, Qatar’s Prime Minister has described the current situation more as a pause than a genuine ceasefire, while discussions regarding a phased resolution continue among international leaders.
