An independent game developer for Roblox has expressed serious concerns regarding the platform's child safety measures, suggesting that they are not stringent enough and urging parents to monitor their children around the clock. With Roblox being the most popular gaming platform for children aged eight to twelve in the UK, this warning comes at a crucial time for the gaming community.

In an exclusive interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, the developer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, emphasized that parents should keep an eye on their children's activities on Roblox '24/7', warning that if they cannot commit to this level of monitoring, their children should not be allowed to play the game.

Roblox maintains its stance on safety, claiming that advanced safeguards and filters are in place to avoid exposure to harmful content. However, the developer referred to their experiences on the platform, stating, I've seen first-hand how safety is nothing like [Roblox is] portraying it to be. He reported witnessing numerous instances of inappropriate interactions and content, which has heightened his concerns for the safety of young users.

In January 2026, Roblox initiated mandatory age verification checks for users in the UK, aiming to create a safer environment. Contrary to this effort, critics assert that the platform must undertake more robust actions to safeguard very young players, especially in light of reports about online groomers targeting children.

As the platform's popularity surges with over 80 million global players daily—40% of whom are under the age of 13—it's vital for parents to be proactive in supervising their children’s interactions within the game.

In light of these concerns, the developer noted: Roblox does not allow users to have conversations away from the game, yet I've seen reports of users being lured off the platform for such discussions. He also highlighted the existence of games that simulate violent events, stating, I've seen games where the goal is to shoot as many people as possible in the depicted version of Sandy Hook or Columbine.\

Roblox has responded to safety concerns in the past, with CEO Dave Baszucki emphasizing the need for parents to trust their instincts regarding their children's gaming. Global bans from countries like Russia and Turkey, as well as stricter regulations emerging from the UK, underline the pressing challenges the platform faces in ensuring child safety.

As discussions on child safety in gaming continue, it becomes clear that active parental involvement is crucial for managing risks in online environments like Roblox.
