Ozel narrated his visit to Imamoglu in a high-security prison, assuring that the mayor was in good health despite being in solitary confinement. The opposition leader criticized the corruption charges against Imamoglu as a cover to discredit him, asserting that society's reactions, both nationally and internationally, would be critical in shaping the mayor's fate. Meanwhile, the opposition feels abandoned by international allies, particularly voicing disappointment over the UK's lack of response. Ozel warned that if Imamoglu is not released, the CHP could find a strong candidate who could secure a victory of 65% to 70% in the next presidential elections.

Turkey's Opposition Vows Nationwide Protests Until Release of Jailed Mayor
Turkey's opposition stands firm as nationwide protests are promised to persist until Ekrem Imamoglu is freed or early elections are called.
The Turkish opposition party, led by Ozgur Ozel, declared that protests will continue across the nation until jailed Istanbul mayor Ekrem Imamoglu is released or early presidential elections are announced. Following Imamoglu's arrest last week, the protests erupted into some of the largest demonstrations in over a decade, with Ozel emphasizing that the upcoming rally in Istanbul would mark the beginning of their campaign to promote Imamoglu as a candidate for the 2028 presidential elections. U.S. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, however, labeled the demonstrations as "street terrorism," while the opposition claims the legal actions against Imamoglu are politically motivated.
