Fashion icon Giorgio Armani will be absent from Milan Fashion Week for the first time in his illustrious career, as he recovers at home following a short hospital stay in Milan. At 90 years old, the renowned Italian designer's company confirmed that he has been diligently working on his collections, but will now follow the menswear shows remotely on Saturday and Monday. This marks a notable moment in his five-decade tenure in the fashion industry, as it's the first occasion he has missed such an event.
Armani is said to be in good spirits and is expected to attend the upcoming presentations in Paris scheduled for the end of June. The fashion shows in Milan next week will unveil the Spring-Summer 2026 collections of his self-titled luxury label, coinciding with the brand's 50th anniversary, as well as Armani’s 91st birthday.
Known as 'Re Giorgio' or King Giorgio, Armani has significantly influenced the luxury fashion landscape since founding his brand in 1975. He originally ventured into fashion after beginning his studies in medicine, and later partnered with his late collaborator, Sergio Galeotti. Over the years, Armani's empire has expanded, encompassing haute couture, ready-to-wear lines, accessories, beauty products, and luxury hotels around the world, including Milan, Paris, and New York.
As his long-time collaborator and head of menswear design, Leo Dell'Orco, prepares to take closing bows at the Milan shows, fashion enthusiasts and industry professionals alike look forward to celebrating this milestone moment in a fashion legacy that continues to evolve.
