Imran Khan Hospitalised in Islamabad After Court Order

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken from Adiala jail to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad under heavy security after his health was reported to be deteriorating.

A three‑judge panel of the Supreme Court had already ruled that Khan must be examined by physicians within 48 hours. The court’s decision was meant to safeguard the prisoner’s life, health, dignity and security.

Khan, who has been imprisoned since 2023 on corruption charges that he describes as politically motivated, has faced more than a hundred cases ranging from state‑secret leaks to misappropriation of gifts. He has complained of severely impaired vision, with a lawyer reporting only 15 % vision left in his right eye.

The court directed that an eye specialist be involved in the treatment, and warned that any gatherings outside the hospital would violate the order. The move has sparked tension, as supporters of Khan’s Tehreek‑e‑Insaf party are frequently met with police crackdowns. Despite his jailing, Khan remains a powerful figure in Pakistani politics with a loyal following demanding his release.
