DICKSON CITY, Pa. (AP) — Emergency crews battled a fire late Wednesday night that engulfed a portion of Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, prompting the immediate evacuation of all patients, staff, and visitors from the facility. Representatives confirmed that everyone was safely evacuated as firefighters worked to contain the blaze into early Thursday.

Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his appreciation for first responders on social media, acknowledging their bravery amid the crisis. “Thank you to every first responder running toward danger to help their fellow Pennsylvanians,” he said, while sending prayers to those affected.

Footage circulating online shows flames prominently shooting from the building, specifically targeting what appears to be the hospital’s Orthopedic Institute. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear.

U.S. Representative Rob Bresnahan Jr. also took to social platforms to express his gratitude, stating, “Deep gratitude goes to the first responders and hospital teams whose swift, professional actions ensured the safety and well-being of everyone involved.”
