With the IWF's assistance, Telegram aims to enhance its measures against child exploitation. This monumental shift comes after founder Pavel Durov faced legal troubles in Paris due to the app's failure to adequately moderate harmful content. The IWF, which assists various online platforms to detect and remove CSAM, has responded positively to Telegram's newfound commitment, though they caution that this is merely a beginning.

"We can implement our advanced tools to help ensure that this material is not disseminated on the platform," stated Derek Ray-Hill, Interim CEO of the IWF. Reports have previously labeled Telegram as "the dark web in your pocket" due to criminal activities proliferating within the app, including drug trafficking and fraud.

Durov was detained in August in connection with allegations of negligence toward law enforcement concerning illegal content. As investigations continue, Telegram is also enacting several changes to improve its operations. These changes include complying with legal requests from police for user information and enhancing security protocols against exploitation.

Notably, while Telegram markets itself as an end-to-end encrypted messaging service, concerns have been raised regarding its actual security measures. Despite these criticisms, the company's latest partnership with the IWF is viewed as a significant step forward. Durov, who possesses multiple citizenships and lives in Dubai, has vowed to transform moderation on Telegram into a more responsible practice, underscoring the app’s commitment to child safety moving forward.
