A Ryanair flight from Berlin to Milan encountered severe turbulence due to adverse weather on Wednesday night, leading to an emergency landing in Memmingen, southern Germany. According to Bavarian police, eight passengers were injured, including a two-year-old who sustained bruises and a woman with a head injury.
The flight, carrying 179 passengers and six crew members, required medical assistance upon landing after the captain made the decision to redirect the plane to Memmingen as conditions at Munich Airport were deemed unsuitable for landing. The aircraft landed safely at 20:44 local time.
Three of the injured passengers were taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, while the remaining injured individuals received treatment on-site. As a precautionary measure, all passengers were assessed for injuries. Ryanair expressed its apologies to those affected, emphasizing its commitment to passenger safety and care.
In response to the incident, the Southern Bavaria Aviation Authority did not authorize a subsequent flight for the evening, prompting Ryanair to arrange alternative transportation to Milan for affected passengers, along with a replacement flight scheduled for Thursday morning.
