DENVER (AP) — Three teens have been hospitalized in critical condition following a shooting at Evergreen High School, located about 30 miles west of Denver. Authorities confirmed that the shooting took place around midday, prompting immediate emergency services to respond.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley stated that all three individuals taken to the hospital are believed to be students, though details regarding their specific injuries have not been disclosed at this time. As of mid-afternoon at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado, hospital CEO Kevin Cullinan reported that all three were either in the emergency room or undergoing surgery, with no additional victims reported.

The identity of the shooter or shooters involved in the incident remains unclear. In response to the shooting, over 100 police officers were deployed from around the Denver area to secure the school and ensure the safety of students and staff. The sheriff's office is well-acquainted with school shooting tragedies, having previously responded to the infamous 1999 Columbine High School shooting that claimed 14 lives. This recent event has reignited fears and concerns regarding school safety across the nation.
