At least one person is dead and nine others are injured after a shooting and a fire at a Mormon church in Michigan, local police say.
Officials reported that there was an active shooter incident at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, a town 60 miles (96 km) northwest of Detroit, on Sunday morning.
There are multiple victims and the shooter is down, police stated. Authorities have yet to identify the suspect or disclose a motive.
The Grand Blanc Township Police Department confirmed there is no further threat to the public and that the fire has been contained.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi expressed her concern over the incident, describing it as a horrific shooting and fire and urged prayer for the victims. She also mentioned that federal agents from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are responding to the scene.
FBI Director Kash Patel labeled the incident as a cowardly and criminal act and reaffirmed federal assistance to local authorities.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer condemned the violence, especially in a sacred place, and assured that she is monitoring the developments.
