PROVO, Utah (AP) — Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old man charged with the aggravated murder of Charlie Kirk, is set for a court hearing on Monday. During this hearing, Robinson and his newly appointed legal counsel will discuss whether they wish to have a preliminary hearing to assess the evidence against him before proceeding to trial.
Robinson faces serious charges following the shooting of Kirk, a prominent conservative activist known for his efforts to influence young voters towards conservatism. Prosecutors have indicated their intention to pursue the death penalty in this case.
Under Utah's judicial system, defendants have the option to waive their rights to a preliminary hearing, allowing them to schedule an arraignment to formally enter a plea.
Kathryn Nester, the lead attorney defending Robinson, declined to comment regarding the case ahead of the hearing, and the Utah County Attorney’s Office was unavailable for comment.

Authorities apprehended Robinson after he turned himself in at his local sheriff’s office, located over three hours from the shooting site, accompanied by his parents.
